Bigga Bush, formerly part of the Rockers Hi-Fi, delivers his debut for Stereo Deluxe, BIGGA BUSH FREE. Seamlessly blending his more dubwise tendencies with house and downtempo, the album fits quite nicely with the rest of Stereo Deluxe’s oeuvre. “Outernationalist Anthem” throws in a house beat, while “Throwdown” has a thumping hip-hop beat and an old-time piano mixed in with some fun cutting. “Deep Eastwood” swings into funk territory, while “Sole Sister” is content just to be ambient. The summery vibe of “Bigga Beatbox” is sweetened with the vocal percussion and a mellow synth line. There’s a slight Gotan Project feel (must be the accordion!) to “Michaelangelo,” but the acid line keeps things from becoming too much of a rehash. A few tracks are unremarkable, but the clattering percussion and vocals of the final track, “Self Judgement” reflect well on the album as a whole.
