Satanicpornocultshop, a plunderphonics/hiphop/musique concrete/post pop breed from Japan. Sounds intimidating enough? The music contained on this (over an hour long) "EP" is a great representation of what this bunch does. Edges of what they cut from and paste into are fairly variable - from almost ambient tracks such as Ninth and Tenth Lament, through various interludes which frame the longer pieces in the way commercial jingles do, to blatant cover versions (Porque Te Vas, Dreams Are My Reality) and plunderphonics (Michael Jackson cut up into thin pieces fights The Ghostbusters); all the pieces bear the sign of sheer playfulness. Those familiar with their releases will recognize why all but one track are presented as "bonus tracks" - simply due to them being mostly remixes and alternative versions of previously released songs (or previews of material to be released). The good thing is, a listener new to Satanicpornocultshop will get a very good idea whether to look for more of their numerous albums, while those who have heard even all of their previous releases will find some more of their favorite meal in here. Brilliantly mashed up into the same mess as they've done before but then - we're coming back for what we like, don't we? And with this nicely Japstyle cardboard-packed CD coming from a Polish Vivo label, they do deliver some more neatly fucked up rhythms, uplifting melodies, crazy chops, and loose cuts and ends, all in all bringing a package that has a good deal of a chance to put a smile if not a half-crazy grin on one's face.
