This is an absolutely sublime piece of deep, pumping and euphoric house on a techno tip. The sampling is some of the tightest I've heard in recent times. The Paris Grey segment "If your love is like a jail then lock me up, I don't want to be free" is used to perfection in my ears. Stuttering, chopped up and tweaked old school acid house vox bits are underpinned by groovy and rolling bass segments, and it's a match made in heaven. Just when you think it's all drums, bass and samples, at the 04:40 mark the soothiest pad of 'em all is dropped, and nirvana has been reached. The title Medusa is an ode to the original as well, as the 1987 classic was called "Don't Lead Me (Medusa House Mix)". This is an absolute floor killer for all the house heads out there. Classy tune.Don Williams, on the other hand - and I have not heard a production of his in like a decade or something - opts for a more pummeling affair. The stammering vocal excerpts toss the vibe back to the days of Speedy J's "Something For Your Mind", while the heavy percussion drops are firmly rooted in the present dance floor spectrum. More on the boucning techno side than the original, Don Williams choses to focus on the peak time hours. Regardless, the dosege of funk is on the desired level, it's just that the vocal are reduced to mere hiccups, emphasized by the devastating drum kicks. Absolutely slamming. Two fine takes on the same theme, and both excell at it too! Both are amazingly ecstatic, juicy, and best of all, highly functional, each in its own right. Whether you're looking for that late night deep house gem that would sit well in the Phoenix G catalog, or that bass laden techno banger, your money is well placed here. Each track here is worth the price of admission on its own, so it's a no-brainer really.
