This one takes some time to grow on you. I really like the collection of artists DJ Zen has utilized for his re-works here. The problem is that the album falls prey to the somewhat generic DJ Zen psy/progressive trance sound in places. There's nothing bad here, but there's not enough that distinguishes itself either. The first track is my second favorite. It's by Uth, whose free Distant Instincts EP I really liked. I haven't heard the original mix of this track (is there one?) but I'd like to. This is the most chill track on the album. It's good old fashioned downtempo psy trance. It goes into a flourish midway through the track that reminds me of Astral Projection's "Ambient Valley (Disco Valley Mix)" song. I almost expect to hear the samples from "Dune" to kick in. Nice. Second track is okay. This is mid-tempo psy and it's just okay. Track 3 is the most ambitious. I think this is the pick-to-click track for most people. This is deep mid/downtempo chill with some nice effects. I think it could've been tightened up and would've been a better track at, say, 11 minutes. Again, it's got a old school feel. This is my favorite track. If the rest of the album stood out like this, this would be a no-brainer 5/5 album. Track 4 - just kind of generic and forgettable. Track 5- Memories Maze has seen a ton of remixes in the past year or so, and this is another one. It's got that melody you can hang your hat on early in the track, but this is not the strongest mix of Memories Maze I've heard. If you're interested, there's an entire EP of remixes of this track and another remix on Fahrenheit Project 7. It's fine, but it could've been better. Track 6 is originally from Vibrasphere and who can hate on Vibrasphere? This really has a pronounced uplifting/morning melody to it. Some people are going to listen to this track and say "There's a lot of music that sounds like this." Some people are going to call this cheese. Well, both statements are technically accurate but I like this track regardless. Track 7 - This just doesn't do anything for me. The final track doesn't do anything for me, either. It's not bad but it's paint-by-numbers psy dub. It's not bad, I just don't expect it to make any of my playlists. Ranking the tracks: 3, 1, 6, and 5 are worth grabbing this album for, in that order. 8, 2, and 7 are kind of filler.
