The Field's first release on Kompakt is an instantly impressive yet dizzying concoction. Although "Love" is (peculiarly) for the most part quite a straightforward track, the gradual close-in towards "Distance" - and the track itself - becomes reminiscent of Wolfgang Voigt's works as M:I:5, but more straightahead in rhythm. This is a trend that continues on the flip, however, the effect is at its grandest on the final track, "Action". Here the resemblance to M:I:5 is particularly marked, and a synth line that seems to chug along to the same rhythm as Basic Channel's "Octagon" is present throughout. The tracks here are all fairly similar to those presented on "From Here We Go Sublime" but are of a much higher standard, and indeed are proof that when executed with a little more care, The Field's ideas can actually sound quite amazing. Still, not sure if it was entirely necessary to the mix the tracks on each side together.

"Thought vs Action" is fairly astonishing – the second half (released by itself as "Action" on Kompakt Total 6) samples the introduction to The Four Tops' "Reach Out, I'll Be There", then drags it out over six minutes. I'd love to hear more from these guys.

2005 - An aural odditee. This album is one of the most odd that I've heard for a long time. Yes, it might change into a new song without warning but what it does, it does beautifully. If you're a dj that likes to layer tracks together and sample than this is a wonderful platform for that. I've played this out a few times now and I can always see when the crowd is loosing interest. Then click in a good four four under the track and watch them start to "get it" again. good track to listen to as well.
