Gooi Bob Dylan, Television, Kraftwerk en The Chemical Brothers in een cocktailshaker, schud het geheel goed en je het resultaat is een pittige Echoboy-cocktail. Richard Warren, zoals hij in het dagelijkse leven genoemd wordt, zoekt het zeker niet in de weg van de minste weerstand. Als dat zo zou zijn, had hij het aanbod van Noel Gallagher wel aangenomen om bij Oasis te komen spelen. Afkomstig uit het powertrio The Hybrids besloot hij een totaal andere weg in te slaan. Zijn eerste twee cd’s, simpelweg Volume 1 en Volume 2 getiteld, bestonden uit langgerekte hypnotiserende grooves, waarbij de moogsynthesizer een belangrijke rol speelde, aangevuld met spaarzame vocalen. Voor Giraffe heeft hij echter meer ruimte voor microfoongebruik ingenomen, wat zeer uiteenlopende, doch briljante resultaten oplevert. Alsof het Factory-label uit Manchester nog steeds bestaat en een Best Of-verzamelaar heeft uitgebracht. Zo heeft de opener Automatic Eyes veel weg van Joy Division en reikt Lately Lonely verdacht veel naar New Order. Giraffe is dan ook een absolute aanrader en maakt de luisteraar heel nieuwsgierig naar de volgende verrichtingen van Echoboy.
