This is an underplayed gem from the early Stones' collection. 'Heart of Stone' would become the prototype for every misogynist anthem the Stones would go on to create. The lyrics are cruel: 'if you try acting sad, you'll only make me glad'. However, Jagger meets his match when he finds a girl who 'no matter how I try, I just can't make her cry...' A solid rocker that doesn't get enough play."What a Shame" is one of the less interesting blues numbers that the Stones wrote and recorded. This instrumental could have appeared on their first album.
