Great album from Joseph Malik. If you imagine Amp Fiddler with the funk toned down and some downtempo feeling added to the mix then you'll be digging this. This is moody and magnificent music- very expressive. Malik comes from a DJ background but here the focus is on real songs and real music played by real people.

Androlhala

Joseph Malik’s beautiful tenor is put front and center on his debut album for Compost, DIVERSE. And diverse would be the appropriate word: he ranges from more folksy compositions (“Melodies,” “Mother’s Son”) to the jazziness that Compost is known for (“Soul Blues”). There’s some pseudo blues-funk (with a house kick) on “Take It All and Check It All Out” -- catchy as the flu! Dave Donnelly’s acoustic guitar complement Malik’s vocals to a tee, even on the Afro-tinged “As I Rise” and “Ibotribe.” The light breaks (augmented by some crazed bongos) and trumpet line of “I Don’t Want” give the track energy and excitement. That energy finds its counterpoint in the atmospheric and dreamy “I Am Drifting.” Diversity should always sound this good.
