I honestly was not expecting to like this. Coldplay doesn't immediately strike as a band that would remix well, but I saw it at Central Station Records and figured I should probably give it a spin, just in case. I ended up walking out with it and, I think, Ferry Corsten's 'Fire'. This out of a listening pile of about forty records. These remixes are all genuinely great. Furthermore, they all offer something different, for the casual listener and for the DJ. The Thin White Duke mix offers an unusually upbeat mix; one of those rare remixes that can successfully rewrite the chord progression. Whilst the FK dub is not my favourite, it can't be denied it mixes well with just about everything and has a certain minimalist beauty about it. The Junkie XL remix is hardly what you'd expect from the known purveyor of commercial beats and bloops, with a subtler intro by far than I could ever expect from JXL, and a trancey feel I didn't think he was even capable of. Honestly. Give it a listen. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
