Thetalas
These are spectacular. These condensed plays feature some of the finest Shakespearean actors of the 20th century: Richard Burton, Michael and Vanessa Hedgrave, Peter O'Toole, and on and on. But what really sets these plays apart for me are the soundtrack and sound effects. The majority are by Desmond Leslie, whose Musique Concrete experimental electronica sets the mood beautifully. Eerie interludes, background oscillations, echoing reverb. Combined with the normal repertoire of footsteps, murmuring crowds, rain falling, doors slamming, etc. So often Musique Concrete seems esoteric and unapproachable. That is most definitely not the case here. And there are quite literally 1000s of amazing samples here ripe for the taking - both lines from the plays as well as music and effects. 10 albums, 10 plays, and a staggering ouvre of early electronica by an under appreciated talent - and still very affordabe. Murray Hill knocked it out of the park with this compilation.Edit: these are a compilation of the early-60s Living Shakespeare productions. I can't find a definite date anywhere, but this looks like a late-70s collection.
