Area Code 615 was a Nashville studio supergroup (615 is the Nashville telephone area code) formed in 1969 in the wake of Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline album (on which some of the future members of Area Code 615 played). Area Code 615 were a who's who of Nashville session stars: Charlie McCoy (harmonica), Mac Gayden (guitars), Weldon Myrick (steel guitar), Kenny Buttrey (drums), Bobby Thompson (banjo), Wayne Moss (guitars), Buddy Spicher (fiddle), Norbert Putnam (bass), and David Briggs (piano). While still displaying their self-natured country-funk pedigree, on their aptly-named second (and final) LP, the Nashville supergroup dives head-first into trippy funk and eclectic psychedelic rock complete with fuzz tones, progressive vibes and outbursts of heavy guitars. With titles like "Russian Red", "Stone Fox Chase" and "Devil Weed and Me", you know these cats are enjoying their "Trip" To The Country.
